In 24 April 2019, at Hanoi Museum, the MOU signing ceremony among Facing the World, Vietnam Airlines, 108 Military Central Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital and Hong Ngoc General Hospital has successfully took place within the framework of the 93rd Birthday of H.M Queen Elizabeth II hosted by the Britain Embassy.

Facing the World is UK-registered charity established in 2002 with the mission of giving life-changing surgery for disfigured children in developing countries, especially complex cases. During its 10-year journey in Vietnam, Facing the World Charity has supported and cooperated with Vietnam-based partners to successfully perform hundreds of surgeries for disadvantaged children who have severe deformities.

To continue its successful charity work, in the evening 24/4/2019, Facing the World has signed MOU with important partners to promote the cooperation among them in the next years, aiming at bringing more life-changing opportunities to patients.

Attending the ceremony, from Vietnam, there were Mr. To Anh Dung – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien – Deputy Minister of Health, Lieutenant-general Prof.Dr Mai Hong Bang – Director of 108 Military Central Hospital, Mr. Pgam Ngoc Minh – Chairman of Vietnam Airlines Corporation, Mr. Duong Tri Thanh – General Director of Vietnam Airlines, Prof.Dr. Tran Binh Giang – Director of Viet Duc Hospital, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vinh – Chairman of Hong Ngoc General Hospital and other guests.

Present on behalf of United Kingdom was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mr. Gareth Ward. Australian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam – Ms. Deborah Paul also attend the ceremony. Representing for Facing the World Charity was Ms. Katrin Kandel – the Charity’s CEO.

After the opening speech by Mr. Gareth Ward – the UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam, representatives of Facing the World, 108 Military Central Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital and Hong Ngoc General Hospital together signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under witness of the event’s honor guests.

 With this memorandum, the parties reached important agreements. Accordingly, Facing the World will provide professional training for doctors of 108 Central Military Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Hong Ngoc General Hospital and consult the knowledge to support the establishment of Craniofacial Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery Center at the three hospitals.

Particularly, as the signed MOU stated, Vietnam Airlines becomes the exclusive airlines sponsoring for Facing the World as the main partner in the charity’s communication network in Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines will sponsor business class/ economic class round-trip tickets between the UK and Vietnam to doctors attending charity missions and training courses.

Addressing the significance of this MOU signing ceremony, Mr. Pham Ngoc Minh – Chairman of Vietnam Airlines Corporation stated that Vietnam Airlines will keep accompanying to Facing the World in its missions of charity surgery in Vietnam by offering the airlines’ tickets. This shows that the national airlines is willing to share burden with the society and cooperate with other partners to build a happier community – a community without birth deformities.

The event is a chance for all parties to strengthen their partnership

The officially signed MOU once again emphasizes the commitment of the parties to the development of medical training and education through fellowship for local doctors, the provision of equipment and facilities for Vietnam-based hospital as well as the support of Vietnamese partners to Facing the World charity’s mission in Vietnam. All together give benefit to Vietnamese disadvantaged children, helping them to find happiness in life and contributing to the development of society.
